Four Valley athletes each won a pair of events during the Palmer Invitational track and field meet last week at Palmer High School.
Palmer’s Sawyer Wilhelm and Leila Petersen, Wasilla’s Gabriel Carey, and Redington’s Mia Bialka all finished first twice during the annual two-day meet.
Wilhelm was first in the boys 200 meters with a personal best time of 23.06 seconds, and won the 100 at 11.34. Petersen was first for the Moose girls in the 200 (26.49) and 400 (59.60). Carey placed first in the boys 800 (2:07.57) and 1,600 (4:46.74). Bialka won the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 57.77 and triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 8 inches.
Colony swept the team titles. The Knights finished with 261 total points in the boys team standings, and 203.5 on the girls side.
Four different Colony athletes won boys individual events. Trygve Vang-Thompson enjoyed a personal best time of 16:11.92. Grant Ousley used a throw of 47-11 to win the shot put. Bryden Lindstrom hit 6-1, a personal best, in the high jump. Maverick Rodriguez had a leap of 21-1 in the long jump.
Annelise Larsen was among three Knights to place first in girls events, with a time of 13.15 in the 100. Dominique Parker won the high jump at 4-8. Kyanna Link was first in the long jump with a mark of 15-9.
Nolan Garner won the boys discus with a throw of 143-6 for the Palmer boys. Nathan Stapley and Calvin Musgrave also won events for the Wasilla boys. Stapley had a personal best time of 52.98 to win the 400. Musgrave was first in the triple jump at 40-9.
Hailee Giacobee won the 3,200 for the Wasila girls.
