LaJuana Kay “Kay” Pierce

LaJuana Kay “Kay” Pierce (née Jensen) died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on 25 January 2018 in Wasilla, Alaska. Kay was 68 years old and died from complications related to metastatic breast cancer.

Kay is survived by her husband, David; children, Michelle, Linda, Patience, Charity, Justin, Brittany, and Ian; her siblings, Dot Larson, Kenneth Jensen, Duston Jensen, Lars Jensen, Sandy Dorman, and West Jensen, and her 25 grandchildren.

Kay was born on 23 February 1949 in Richfield, Utah to Ardella and Lars Jensen. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1971 with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. She served as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. She married David M. Pierce after meeting him in the USAF. They were married in 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska and sealed for time and all eternity in the Latter Day Saint Salt Lake City Temple in 1974.

Kay was devoted to serving children. She volunteered at her grandchildren’s school, served many years in her church primary program, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, earning the Silver Beaver award and raising two Eagle Scouts. She was the Director of Exhibits at the Alaska State Fair responsible for the displays in the Irwin and Hoskins Buildings. Kay was an accomplished gardener and loved flowers. She was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in her callings.

A public viewing will be held at the LDS chapel across from Colony High School (9475 E. Bogard Rd, Palmer, AK 99645) on 31 January 2018 at 9:30-10:30 immediately followed by a memorial service at 11:00. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kay’s life.
