Larry Dean Stewart

Larry Dean Stewart, 65, of Palmer, passed away at the Puget Sound Veteran’s Hospital on Jan. 7.

He was born Oct. 15, 1944 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was a long time resident if Iowa, until 1997 when he moved to Alaska.

He served in the Air Force as a hydraulics mechanic at Bunker Hill AFB in Indiana. He also worked for John Deere in Iowa. While in Alaska, he worked as a rental agent, retail store manager until a stroke in 2005 forced him to retire.

He volunteered at the Waterloo Playhouse in various capacities. He always talked about how much he enjoyed the experiences and of the friends he made while volunteering. He also volunteered at the Valley Performing Arts Theater in Wasilla.

Larry enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader; but his great joy was fishing even after his stroke.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Alwyn Tremaine Stewart, and Mildred Ettie Paul Stewart and his brother Gary Stewart. And also two former wives: Connie Stewart and Kristine Geist Stewart.

He is survived by a brother, Raymond Stewart of Iowa and aunts and cousins.

He is survived by three sons and a step-daughter Dennis Stewart, Travis Stewart, and Paula, all of Waterloo, Iowa. His son James Stewart lives in Plato, Mo.

He moved to Alaska in 1997 and remarried. He’s survived by his wife Olivia Stewart, two sons, Lee Michael Stewart of Palmer, and Neil Wood of Anchorage; and a step-daughter, Amanda Steele of Wasilla.

Larry has 11 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; Jonathan Stewart, Anastasia Stewart, and Megan Stewart of Waterloo, Iowa. In Alaska: Nathan Scott Wood and Jesse James Wood of Anchorage. In Reno, Nevada: Sara Comer Wood, Katie Irene Wood. Also in Wasilla: Taylur Cheyanne Steele, Montana Skye Steele and Olivia Isabella Steele all of Wasilla.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at the Matanuska Ward, LDS Church in Palmer for all friends and acquaintances.

Interment will be held at the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.
