Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Larry J. Voelk of Wasilla, 78, went to rest Aug. 31, 2013.
A celebration of life in memory of Larry is at 2 p.m., Sept. 8 at the home of Ed and Laurie Keller, Mile 54, Parks Highway. At a later date, his ashes will be scattered at Mile 54 along with his best buddy, Bee Gee.
Larry was born May 17, 1935 in Swanville, Minn., to Otto and Ann Voelk.
Larry served his country in the U.S. Navy and proceeded on to Silver Bay, Minn., to become a law enforcement officer for many years. He then moved his family to Alaska and worked on the North Slope for some time.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn.
Surviving are sons, Tim Voelk of Wasilla and Mark Voelk of Kerrville, Texas; daughters, Cathy Miller of Big Lake and Laurie and Ed Keller of Houston; brothers, Eugene and Marylou Voelk of Foley, Ala., and Ed “Chuck” and Linda Lindquist of Soldotna; sister, Yvette and Don Powell of Medina, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
