Long time Alaska resident Larry Eugene Ricke, 86, peacefully passed away December 27, 2021, while surrounded by his family in Wasilla, Alaska.
Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1201 E. Bogard Rd, Wasilla on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:00 am and a burial to follow immediately after at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
Larry was born November 26, 1935 in Duluth, Minnesota to Mary Stuhr. He joined the United States Airforce where he trained to become an Aircraft Mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1960. He then followed his lifelong dream of moving to Alaska in 1962 where he worked for both the 302 and 341 Union. He married his best friend and partner Mary Spurgeon on December 10, 1976 in Anchorage Alaska. Once he retired from the Union Larry and his wife moved to Wasilla, Alaska where they built their home. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying his Super Cub when he wasn’t tinkering in his shop.
Larry is survived by his wife Mary Ricke; Step-Son, Kevin Spurgeon and LouAnn Wilson of Willow, Alaska; Grandchildren, Jeromy Spurgeon and wife Rebecca of Wasilla, Alaska, Ashley Foster and husband Troy of Wasilla, Alaska; Great-Grandchildren, Layne Spurgeon, Layton Spurgeon and Avery Foster; Sister Dolores Hatch of Olivia, Minnesota and many nephews and nieces. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Stuhr and brother, Arnie Ricke as well as many aunts and uncles.
Flowers are welcome and can be sent to Legacy Funeral Homes/Wasilla Heritage Chapel at 1015 S Check St. Wasilla, Alaska 99654 the day prior to the funeral.
Larry always said “Heaven is my home. I’m just here on vacation.”
