Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime resident Lawrence (Larry) Loitz, 74, passed away October 28th, 2018 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. Larry was born March 12, 1944, to Farnum and Lilly Loitz in Shelton, Washington. He and his family moved to Sitka, Alaska in 1959, when he was 15. There he worked for Alaska Lumber and Pulp from (1962 –1994) and was a Sitka Volunteer Firefighter (1969 – 1993). Larry married his second wife and surviving spouse Joyce in 1985. When Alaska Lumber and Pulp closed in 1993 he and his family moved to Wasilla, Alaska where he started his own Septic/Leech Field installation company, Aardvark Enterprises (1996-2003) and worked in Transportation at Job Corps in Palmer (1996-2011).
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Loitz of Wasilla, Alaska, his four children, Tammy Loitz of Nickerson, Kansas, Trace Horrace of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jason Loitz of Wasilla, Alaska, Ashley Blatchford of Kenai, Alaska, his sister Marilyn Hawley of Bellingham, Washington and his six Grandchildren; Robert Horrace, Victoria Horrace, Tristan Loitz, Hanna Horrace, Paige Loitz, and Kyle Loitz. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Loitz. Services to be held November 9th, 2018 at 6 pm at the Palmer Elks Lodge, potluck to follow.
