Wasilla resident Lennea V. Lindon, 91, died Aug. 5, 2011, at her home.
A celebration of life gathering in honor of Lennea is at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, in the Wasilla Senior Center dining room, 1301 S. Century Circle.
She was born June 2, 1920, in Keats, Kan., the daughter of Lenne and Mable (Peterson) Dellen.
Lennea moved to Colorado, where she met and married Winifred Lindon on May 26, 1942. They traveled by steamship from Seattle, Wash., to Seward in 1951. They drove to Anchorage, where they settled to raise their family — their daughter, Sharon, and son, Craig. She worked in the Anchorage School District as a baker and retired in 1979. After her retirement, she and her husband, Winifred, moved to Manson, Wash. They had a huge garden there and several fruit trees. She started the first farmers’ market in Manson, Wash. She also baked rolls weekly for the Kiwanis Club.
Lennea moved to Wasilla in October 2000. She moved into the Raven Tree senior housing, where she was an active member of the Wasilla Senior Center. Her hobbies included sewing, playing cribbage and quilting. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She volunteered for many events and enjoyed sewing many quilts for children in need. She had the nurses and caregivers of Knik Manor wrapped around her finger and they will miss her. Her family and friends she made along her life’s journey will miss her greatly.
Lennea is survived by her daughter, Sharon Rooth of Anchorage; and son, Craig Lindon and daughter-in-law Elizabeth of Wasilla. She is also survived by her grandson, Shawn Rooth and his wife Mary of Oklahoma; granddaughters, Lennea Lindon of Anchorage and Tricia Reaves and her husband David of Wasilla; great-granddaughter, Shawna Rooth of Oklahomoa; and great-grandsons, Tyler Rooth of Oklahoma and Kaleb, Luke and Brady, all of Wasilla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winifred; brother, Melvin; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in her memory be made to a favorite charity.
The family was cared for by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory of Wasilla.
