Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Valley resident, Leonard Stephen Backlin, 71, passed away in the loving arms of his wife on July 21, 2017, in Anchorage at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla.
Leonard was born on Aug. 27, 1945, in Portland, Oregon. He served our Country in the Army National Guard. While living in Washington he served as an EMT and as Lieutenant with the Skykomish Fire Department. He was head of Search and Rescue and served on the City Council. In 1989 he moved to Alaska, and worked for Spenard Builders Supply for 25 years. He loved to build.
He would befriend anyone. He was always able to help during times of trouble especially at Spenards.
Leonard is survived by his wife Linda S. Backlin of Meadow Lakes; two sons, Ryan Lytle and Leif Backlin, both of Wasilla; and granddaughter Leanna Jones of Wasilla.
He was preceded in Death by his parents.
