He graduated from Rothsay High School in 1951 and enlisted in the US Air Force serving from 1952 to 1956. He was stationed at several Air Force Bases including St. Johns in Newfoundland, Canada. LeRoy went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960 from State College - Moorhead, and his Master of Science in Education from Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1965. He drove to Palmer, Alaska in 1962 in his beloved “Cora the Corvair” to pursue a teaching career. LeRoy went on to teach at Palmer High School for nearly 20 years. After retiring from teaching he operated Nord Advertising Specialties for over 20 years.
LeRoy and Barbara Moore were married on December 29, 1970 and had three children, Leed Nord, Sabra (Chris) Sturgis and Cerise (Lisa) Nord: six grandchildren, Samuel and Sawyer Sturgis, and Jackson, Samuel, Alex and Noah Larsen. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club; loved classic cars, old farm equipment, animals and was always up for a good joke or prank. Throughout his life he was an example of patience, kindness and generosity. He and Barbara loved road trips and delighted in traveling around the U.S. and Canada together - sometimes failing to tell their children what country they were in or when they would be home.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Moore) Nord, his parents Oscar and Myrtle, and brother, Richard Nord.
