Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Leroy H. Frank, 51, died Aug. 18, 2010, doing what he loved to do during Alaska summers, riding his motorcycle.
Leroy was born Jan. 20, 1959. He graduated from Rocori (Minn.) High School in 1977, then enlisted in the Army and was commissioned to Special Forces. He traveled the world extensively and was honorably discharged in 1983. He relocated to Alaska and went to work for Underwater Construction. In 1992, Leroy started working for Norgasco Alaska, where he worked until his death.
His family wrote, “Leroy always had a positive attitude and gave everything 110 percent. He enjoyed family, life, travel, fishing and, most of all, Nancy Lake. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers.”
He is survived by sons Ben and Beau of Nancy Lake; parents Jerome and Evelyn Frank of Cold Spring, Minn.; siblings Roman “Butch” Frank of Wasilla, Carol Engelman of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mary (Dan) Witzman of Bowlus, Minn., Bob (Bunny) Frank of St. Cloud, Minn., Roger (Betty) Frank of Chugiak, Barbara Frank of St. Cloud, Karen Hanrahan of Anchorage and Paul (Heather) Frank of St. Michael, Minn. Leroy also has numerous nieces and nephews that love and miss him very much.
Mass will be said in Cold Spring at a later date. Donations can be made at any Northrim Bank in Alaska in his name.
A celebration of Leroy’s life will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at VFW Post 9365, 301 East Lakeview Avenue, Wasilla.
