Leslie Dayle Bogda Wheeler, 78 of Wasilla passed peacefully at home March 13, 2024 surrounded by her family. Leslie was of Christian belief and has truly earned her Angel wings after a 14-year battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer .
Born Leslie Dayle Gilman to Orville and Gene Gilman Jr, in Long Beach California, on July 2, 1945 .
Leslie also lived in Kansas, Arizona and Florida; moving to Alaska in 1974 gathering many friends and loved ones along the way.
Leslie dedicated many years working at making life better for others. She held BSW & MBA degrees and was known for her kindness and gentle nature. Her love for gardening, all creatures great and small, art and crafts, traveling, and photography are reflected in her home and the many gifts she gave to those she loved. Her work included the groundbreaking communication availability in Alaska and as director of the Valley Women's Resource Center she acquired funding necessary to create the women's shelter in Palmer. Her work at the Mid-Valley Senior Center in Houston brought joy to many.
Leslie is survived by her husband David Wheeler, daughter Danielle Martindale, sons Matt & Kevin Wheeler sisters: Sandra Jones, Antoinette (Garry) Bowley , Rocelyn Daniels; brothers Orville(Deanna) Gilman III and Zachary (Elizabeth) Gilman, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a great large family of relatives and friends. Leslie was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Orville Gilman Jr. and infant son Harold S. Bogda III.
Arrangements were made by Legacy of Wasilla. Her viewing will start at noon on Monday March 18, with a service at 2 p.m. and interment to follow at 4 p.m. in Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
