Longtime Sutton resident Lester Wares died April 3, 2011, at his home surrounded by his five children.
Lester was born July 1, 1934, in Elkhart, Kan. In 1955, he married his wife, Barbara, and they moved to Alaska in 1967 with their five children.
Lester worked for 20 years on the North Slope and in 1987 retired from Parker Drilling. Lester enjoyed working in his garage restoring Cadillacs and anything else that needed fixing. He enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling and hunting. Lester took great pride in his home and lawn and spent many hours making it into the beauty that it is. For many years Lester enjoyed getting his family together for Saturday poker games.
He leaves behind his five children, Deanna Baker of Sutton, Rose Barickman of Sutton, Betty Magee of Sutton, Lonnie and Dian Wares of Sutton and Don Wares of Sutton. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
“Lester will be sorely missed by his large family and longtime friends,” his family wrote.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Barbara.
No services are planned at this time. A small gathering of family will spread his ashes.
