LETTER: Whittaker announces candidacy for U.S. Senate

Editor’s Note: This handwritten letter was originally addressed to the Editorial Board of the Anchorage Daily News and later submitted to the Anchorage Press as well as the Ketchikan Daily News.

Bob Atwood was a sexist, racist good old boy who happened to support statehood and natural resource development so he got a building — “The Atwood Building” — is named after him.

I know he was a sexist good old boy because my mother worked for him. (Mom is 91 years old and still kicking!). She sold advertising, but wanted to be the crime reporter. She had a journalism degree. But the job of crime reporter went to my father. He did not have a journalism degree.

I filed for the United States Senate Jan. 13, 2020. I announced on the Dan Fagin Show the next day. Bill Ross took my picture when I testified before the Anchorage Assembly…

It is now Feb. 17, 2020 and not a word of my candidacy in your paper.

Binkley boys, do not pretend to be something you are not… You should be better than Bob Atwood.
