Lillian Margaret “Peggy” Brauneis, 82, passed away October 29, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.

Peggy was born July 21,1936 to Cliff and Bernadette Robinson in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada. There she married Paul R. Brauneis, a US Air Force serviceman. Peg and Paul lived in Maine, Japan, Florida, Massachusetts, and following Paul's return from Vietnam, they were transferred to Alaska. The family drove up the Alcan Highway in 1967. Peggy and Paul finally “settled” in Alaska with their three children. Peggy was a stay-at-home Mom and for 12 years she was Office Manager for Peters Creek Fuel in Eagle River. Peg and Paul lived in Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, and Talkeetna. Then, with Peggy determined to garden year round, and Paul determined to never shovel snow again, they left Alaska for Sequim, Washington. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Paul passed away in 2005, Peggy moved to Arizona, until relocating to Denver. Peggy was artistic, creative, a master at sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking, and baking. Friday afternoons the family camper was packed and weekends were spent enjoying camping trips. All of her life Peggy was a gardener. She had flowers and a vegetable garden. Peg’s favorite place was the unfinished lakefront cabin that she and Paul bought in Talkeetna. A recreational weekend cabin with no road access slowly developed into a road accessible, all amenities home for them. Peggy grew up fishing the lakes of Ontario for walleye. In Alaska, her favorite fish were the rainbow trout, grayling, and salmon. Fishing was always a competition for family – who would catch “Walter” – the biggest trout in the lake - was often a topic of debate. Peggy also loved her loons. She had the spotting scope set up so she could see the baby loons on their mother’s back every spring. Peggy and Paul loved their annual fall hunting trip. Peg would sit for hours spotting moose or caribou and loved the hunting camp location. Peg’s family writes: “After years of moving with the Air Force, Mom finally found a home in Alaska. She was a dedicated and supportive Mom. She worked hard her whole life and passed that work ethic on to her kids.

Peggy was preceded in death by husband Paul; both parents; Aunt Bea Robinson; brother Doug Robinson; sister Penny Belanger; granddaughter Deanna Brauneis, and her companion of ten years; Gordon Amoth.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Terry Simpson; sons, Jack (Paula) Brauneis, Paul (Sheri) Brauneis; grandchildren Jake (Chelsea) Simpson, Dustin (Melissa) Brauneis, Derek Brauneis, Devin (Kaili) Brewington, Connor Mattson, Ryan Casey; four great grandchildren; brother Robert (Linda) Robinson; brother in law Wayne Belanger; and sister in law Anne Robinson; many nieces; nephews; and extended family members.

A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2019. Peggy will be buried alongside Paul in Palmer, Alaska.

Condolences may be sent to PO Box 873831, Wasilla, AK 99687.

Peggy’s children would like to thank the staff at Denver Hospice for the kind, compassionate care that their mother was given.
