Linda (Busick) Churchill of Wasilla, Alaska, long time teacher, mentor, and friend, passed from this life on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Linda was born in Tacoma, Washington, on April 14, 1944, to Bernice (Monsell) and Roscoe Busick. She grew up in Puyallup, Washington along with her siblings Jerry, Dixie and Susie. After high school, she attended college at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Home Economics.
After college, Linda took a job teaching science in Visalia, California where she met the love of her life, David Churchill. They married in 1970 and after a few more years in California, they developed a desire to live in Alaska. They felt the Lord’s confirmation for the move after much prayer and Linda securing a teaching position in Wasilla. In 1975 they made their way North and spent the remainder of their days investing themselves in their community and enjoying the outdoor adventures Alaska has to offer.
Although they had no children of their own, Linda mentored youth in science and Christianity and made a difference in countless lives. She taught thousands of science classes and sponsored many students in national and international science competitions, tirelessly devoting her life to kids from every walk of life. Linda believed that all kids could achieve if given the right method and tools to reach their individual learning styles. Linda had many science experiment modules that she created to give hands-on adventures to attract almost any student. She was a great Auntie to all, often bringing her passion for science with fun experiments and her sense of humor.
Linda loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and had assurance of an eternity with Him. She dedicated many years to sharing her Christian faith to children in her community through Sunday school, instilling the Word of God in young hearts. Linda’s life-long Christian faith brought her through the toughest of times – winning a battle with cancer as well as losing her beloved David, while he served as an Alaska State Trooper. Her battle with Alzheimer’s took away her memories but she never forgot her faith.
Linda exuded kindness everywhere in her community and to her family. She will be greatly missed, yet left a trail of love in all of the people she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernice Oyler (Monsell, Busick) and Roscoe Busick, husband David Churchill, and brother, Jerald Busick. She will be missed by her sisters, Sue Niederwerfer and Dixie Robbins; sisters-in-law Janet Olfe and Vallie Philips; nieces and nephews; Mindy Potvin, Barbara Busick, Steve and Mike Robbins, Mark Niederwerfer, Joy Marcum, Kay Sharp, and Ted O’Brien as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Annie Prendez and her large Alaska Family.
Linda has joined David, her mother and father and her brother in God’s garden in Heaven.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held October 11, 2024, at 4:00, at Wasilla Bible Church in Wasilla, Alaska. Video of the ceremony will be available upon request for those who can’t join us.
