Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Linda Kay Anderson Chandler, 62, passed away on July 25, 2015.
She was born May 25, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Oscar Woodrow Anderson and Helen Ruth Ross. She was the youngest of three children. Linda grew up and wanting adventure moved to Alaska where she spent the rest of her life.
She has done many things and been involved in numerous activities but apparently the best known was the Viking horns and breastplate that she wore to the Iditarod start. Her picture in the helmet and breastplate has been broadcast worldwide. She always supported the Norwegian and Swedish mushers as her heritage was Norwegian and Swedish.
Linda was educated as a Licensed Practical Nurse and through her profession touched many people’s lives. During her brief tenure on this earth she has been the town nurse in Seldovia; worked for the Alaska Native Medical Center; escorted patients from the hospital to their village all over Alaska to teach their families how to care for them; participated with the Community Emergency Response Team training; been parish nurse for her church; been involved with the Health Fairs for 25 years; a passionate Christian and member of the Mat-Su Evangelical Covenant Church; Vice Chair for the Wasilla district of the Republican Party.
In addition to these activities, she was married to Phil Chandler for 29 years whom she met while scuba diving in Seldovia, as well as mother to Cliffton and Jesse Chandler. Linda homeschooled both sons through high school.
She is survived by her husband, Phil; sons, Cliffton Chandler and wife, Sulie, and Jesse Chandler and wife, Angela; sisters, Kathie Lee and husband, David Charles Johnson, and Margaret (Muggs) Ruth and husband, Douglas Robert Gallagher; and nieces, nephews and countless friends. She will be missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.
Services are Aug. 3 at the Wasilla Heritage Chapel, viewing at noon and service at 1 p.m. Visitation is at noon, Aug. 10 at Community Covenant Church in Eagle River, and the service follows at 1 p.m.
