Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Lisa Kemp, 51, died May 10, 2008 from cancer at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Wasilla Bible Church.
Born Lisa Renee Dobson on Oct. 7, 1956, to Robert and Dorothy Dobson, she graduated from Christian Ministries High School in Canton, Ohio, in 1975.
Kemp married her high school sweetheart Wayne Kemp on Sept. 19, 1976 in Palmer. A talented pianist, seamstress and patternmaker, Kemp and her husband’s interest in furs developed into Denali Fur and Leather where her furrier abilities flourished. A teacher while her family was young, Kemp later coached track and field and basketball. She enjoyed the great outdoors, going fishing, camping, bicycling and hiking with her family.
Her family wrote, “Lisa’s faith, courage and fortitude despite obstacles or circumstances were examples of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.”
Kemp is survived by husband, Wayne Kemp, of Wasilla, son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Leeanne Kemp of Wasilla; daughter Deborah Kemp of Palmer; grandchildren Quinn and Victoria Kemp of Wasilla; brothers Jeffrey Dobson of Palmer and Christopher Dobson of Winter Park, Fla.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Robert and Dorothy Dobson and brother Douglas Dobson.
