The Tuesday following Thanksgiving has come to be known as ‘Giving Tuesday,’ a day created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to reach out to their local communities and do good acts. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Employees at CU1 partnered with several nonprofits that provide crucial services throughout the Mat-Su Valley, with various teams of employees delivering hand-picked “wish list” items to the Mat-Su Food Bank, The Children’s Place, and MyHouse to support individuals and families in need.
At Wasilla Area Seniors, they volunteered to host a pop-up soda stop for residents to enjoy soda floats and special CU1 company during lunch.
“The support Credit Union 1 has received from the entire Mat-Su community since we announced we were opening a branch in Wasilla has been absolutely incredible. Partnering with great organizations like the Mat-Su Food Bank, The Children’s Place, MyHouse, and WASI for Giving Tuesday is just one of the ways we try to say thank you while doing our part to help those in need in our community,” said CU1 President and CEO Mark Burgess.
CU1 hosted and participated in Giving Tuesday philanthropy in other communities across Alaska, including events in Anchorage, Soldotna, Eagle River, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Fairbanks, Nome, and Kotzebue.
CU1’s Wasilla Branch is scheduled to open early next year.
