Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

ANCHORAGE — Local organizations received nearly $100,000 in Tier 1 grants from the Rasmuson Foundation during the first quarter of 2013. Some 36 Tier 1 grants were awarded for a total of $654,761. Five of those grants will benefit the Valley.
The Tier 1 program is a cornerstone of Rasmuson Foundation’s grantmaking and provides grants up to $25,000 for capital projects, technology upgrades, capacity building, program expansion and creative works. Applications are accepted year-round.
Receiving grants were:
• Chickaloon Native Village received $20,000 to purchase a vehicle for the Environmental Stewardship Department.
• North America Outdoor Institute Wasilla Safety received $15,000 for training equipment in Wasilla.
• United Way of Matanuska-Susitna Borough received $10,986 for technology upgrades and furnishings in Wasilla.
• Valley Community for Recycling Solutions received a $25,000 grant to purchase a skid steer loader.
• Alaska Pacific University Anchorage received $25,000 to create a master plan for the Kellogg Farm campus in Palmer.
