Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Lois Ann Colton, 80, passed away July 28 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1929 in Aberdeen, Wash., the daughter of Carl and Helen (Savard) Haasl.
Lois graduated from Brooklyn High School (North River), Brooklyn, Wash., and while raising her children, she went on to complete the Licensed Practical Nurse program at Peninsula Community College in Pot Angeles, Wash.
Lois became a proud Alaskan in June 1977 and she worked as an LPN at Harbor View Medical Center from 1977 until her retirement in 1987. She also lived in Eagle River, Peters Creek and Wasilla.
Lois enjoyed fishing, clamming, tending her flower gardens and vacationing to Hawaii.
Lois is survived by her 20-year companion, best friend and caretaker, Donald L. Huseby of Wasilla; daughter, Karen Marie Carman of Forks, Wash.; daughter, Mary Christine Hudon of Forks; son, Charles M. “Mike” Colton of Sylva, N.C.; son, Paul Jerome Colton of Port Angles; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Lois loved her Alaska family and friends, and she considered her years in Alaska the best and happiest years of her life. She is also survived by her Alaska daughters, Sue Stone and Alison Seymour.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., at Valdez Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, Wasilla.
