Lois Feaster, much beloved wife, mother, grandmother and tireless volunteer made her journey to heaven on March 5, 2016. Lois was born on August 24, 1928, to George and Sarah Vanatta.
She met and married the love of her life, Charles, in 1957 and left the comfort of the East Coast to travel to the wilds of Alaska. She and Charles had three children who were blessed to have her as their mom.
Lois was a passionate and dedicated volunteer for Boy Scouts of America, giving 48 years of service to an organization very dear to her heart on the local and District levels. During her time with the Scouts she received many awards for her years of service. She became a very decorated volunteer and received the Silver Beaver award, the highest recognition for a volunteer scouter. She also volunteered her services to the Salvation Army as an advisory board member, and could be seen ringing bells at Christmas throughout the community. She also volunteered with the National Guard for Operation Santa Claus for ten years. She had many fond memories of traveling to the Bush communities to help spread the goodness of Christmas joy. In addition, she ushered at Valley Performing Arts for many years and could always be counted on to bake her delicious chocolate cake for the refreshments area. She was also the recipient of the Dorothy Jones Volunteer of the Year award. Mom was a familiar face serving on State and Borough Election Boards. During her children’s time in school she was active in the PTA. Lois also volunteered during Ag Days at the University of Alaska Experiment Station. Mom was a member of Paws and Taws square dance club since 1989. She held all officer positions multiple times throughout her dancing years. Lois traveled many miles across the state and country with Charles to be able to bow to her partner, and her corner too.
Mom was a friend to many and would step in and take care of anyone in times of need, whether for illnesses or disability. Her dear friends and long time neighbors, Lorene Lentz and Elouise Smith, were blessed to receive her assistance for several years whenever they needed her.
Lois is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles; her sons, Alan (Brenda), Gary (Carri); and her daughter, Karen (Jim). Six grandchildren, Rachel, Naomi, Ethan, Reuben, Cody (Nikki), and Chelsea (Guy). She is also survived by her sister, Hazel and brothers, Robert and John. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Sonny, and her sister Ann.
Services will be held March 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at her home church, Lazy Mountain Bible Church, located at 16005 East Shawn Drive off of Clark/Wolverine Road. We invite you to bring a dish to share at the potluck and time of fellowship and sharing immediately following the service. Arrangements are being handled through Kehl’s Palmer Funeral Home.
