Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Lois Jean Kelly, 68, died May 21, 2011, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital in Palmer.
A memorial service in her honor is at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 14, at Word of Faith Assembly, 3701 E. Bogard Road, Wasilla, with Pastor Steve Alexander officiating.
She was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Rayne, La., to Claude and Elia (Richard) McFarland.
Lois moved to Alaska in 2001 and lived in Wasilla where she was a member of the Word of Faith Assembly in Wasilla and enjoyed being a part of the prayer groups and Bible studies at the church.
She enjoyed her pets Onyx and Precious, and will be remembered as a gracious and giving mother, sister and aunt, and friend to many. Her family and friends said they will miss her love and prayers, but they know she will continue to pray for them in her heavenly home.
“We are very thankful for the righteous heritage she leaves behind to us all,” her family wrote.
Surviving are her sons, Randall Richard of Crowley, La., and Robert J. Richard of Clairmore, Okla.; daughter, Pam Richard of Kaplan, La.; and son, Kevin Richard of Wasilla. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla cared for the family.
