Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Lois was born on April 14, 1937, in Ramsey County, North Dakota. She lived most of her life in North Dakota, marrying Neil Howatt on Oct. 15, 1952. She moved to spend the rest of her life in Palmer in July 2010.
During her life in North Dakota, she was employed with Griggs County Hospital. Lois also owned and operated a small grocery store in Valley City, North Dakota. While she lived in Palmer, she enjoyed living at the Chugach Colony Estates. She faithfully attended Immanuel Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the members. She volunteered her time at the Palmer Senior Center Thrift Store.
She loved to read and study the Bible. She also enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mabel Adrian; and her husband of 41 years, Neil Howatt; her sister Velva Schmiess; and brothers, James Adrian, and Loygene Adrian.
She is survived by her children, Monica Byars of Fargo, North Dakota, Wade (Tina) Howatt of Palmer, Rick (Sherry) Howatt of Cooperstown, North Dakota; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Gordon Adrian; and sister, Ruth Schill.
The service is at 2 p.m., July 20 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7540 East Cottrell-Campus Drive in Palmer.
A memorial service also is planned at 2 p.m., July 31 at Emmanual Evangelical Church in Langdon, North Dakota. A family graveside service will follow.
