Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Lola Anna Smith, 55, passed away at her home May 22, 2015. A celebration of life is at Teeland Middle School at 4 p.m., May 31.
Lola was born to Marion and Wanda Conaway May 11, 1960, in Wichita, Kansas. She grew up in Palmer and graduated from Palmer High School in 1978. She also met David Smith in 1978 and married him that December. After graduating, Lola worked various odd jobs and ultimately found her passion in teaching. She worked as a teacher until 1999.
Lola was known for her compassion and caring nature, always lending a helping hand and opening her home to anyone in need. She was known for her hospitality and her cooking, as she was always feeding people at home and her church. Lola had an incredible group of friends, and only in her passing are we beginning to see how far and how deeply she has touched so many people’s lives. She was truly loved by many.
Lola was a member of Northgate Alaska, formerly known as Crossroads Community Church. She found a home working at and attending Northgate Alaska. Lola had a powerful faith in God and found great strength in the Lord. We all know she is resting easy in the arms of her Savior.
Lola is survived by her husband of 36 years, David Smith; daughter, Harmoney Thomas, daughter and son in-law, Latica and Kristopher Campbell; and grandchildren, Titus Whitmer, Taten Whitmer, Zachariah Campbell and Xander Campbell.
Arrangements were entrusted to Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla Chapel.
