Phil Aber passed the morning of Dec. 4th, at his home, after enjoying a cup of coffee and his final cigarette. He had been battling COPD and anemia his last years. He was the first-born son of Marcia “Aloha” Phillips Aber and Loren George Aber, on December 11, 1945 in Hayden, Colorado. Phil completed his education in Hayden, Colorado, graduating from Hayden High School class of 1964, and Mesa Collage, Grand Junction Co, class of 1971 with a degree in Civil Engineering and Geology. He arrived in Alaska, 1974 for a position as Public Works Director, City of Kenai. His career in public service ended with his retirement from Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Public Works Division Manager, 1997. March of 2000, his stepson, Steve Apling began Certified Aircraft Composites LLC, in Wasilla, AK. Along with his wife Donna, they began helping with the business. Phil developed the plastic area of the business, CAC Plastics, LLC. He was very proud of becoming the largest supplier of plastics for Alaska. He will be sorely missed by his partners, crew, and customers.
He is survived by the love of his life of 25 years, Donna Aber. His children; son, Doyle Aber and daughter, Corryn Hill (Billy) of Soldotna, AK, grandchildren, Kyle and Cache Aber and Eugene and Harley Hill. Mother of his children, Vickie Graham of Soldotna. His brother Allen Aber (Julia) of Fayetteville, NC, nephews Joel & family and Steven Aber. Step sons, Steve (Casey) Apling, Randy (Shawn) Apling, step grandchildren, Tyler (Alex) Apling & daughters, and Trisha Apling all of Wasilla, AK.
The CAC Plastic family dedicated their annual Christmas party to a Celebration of Life on his birthday, Dec. 11th. A family celebration will be this spring at the scattering of his ashes at his home of 30 years, in the Hatcher Pass area. Phil will always be remembered for his ever-present cowboy hat & vest and for the gentleman that he was.
