Lorraine Patricia Helms left us Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at age 76. She enjoyed loving care at Sunrise Manor of Palmer, Alaska since January 2021. Thank you, Paulette! Words of thanks to Ancora Hospice for their wonderful care the last 3 months.
Lorraine was born October 11, 1946, in Crookston, Minnesota to Jo and Larry Svedin. Schooling was at Lake Bronson, Minnesota, Public School. She graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, in 1966. She worked as a medical secretary until 1974.
Lorraine became an Alaskan in 1969, venturing over the Alcan in a pick-up truck with sister Evie and friend Rosemary. She married Gale Helms August 14, 1971 and they lived in Anchorage until 1974 when they moved to Wasilla with baby Aaron. Baby Jeremy joined the family in 1977.
Lorraine worked as registrar at Iditarod Elementary from the early 90’s until her retirement in 2016.
She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer. Her musical blessings included pianist and choir talents. Lorraine loved music, flowers and majolica stoneware.
We will miss this sweet, smart, funny lady. She was a friend to many and was loved by all she touched.
She is mourned by sister, Evie Wells of Texas; brother, Ron Svedin of Palmer and brother, Leonard Svedin of Anchorage; son, Aaron of Wasilla; granddaughters, Madeline and Rosee’ of Palmer. She will also be missed by 4 sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by husband Gale, parents Jo and Larry Svedin and brother Duane.
