Louis R. Schmitz (Papa Louis), 73, died June 3, 2007 at home in Big Lake.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. June 16 at the American Legion Post 35 Mi 46 Parks Highway. Wasilla. American Legion officers will officiate the service. Honorary pallbearers will be, Loren Estrada Jr., Chris Estrada, Mike Estrada, Arnold Filter, Denny Hannas and Kurt Hendrickson.
Mr. Schmitz was born May 25, 1934 in North Dakota. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Mr. Schmitz was a bar owner, pawnshop broker and a general appliance repairman. He was an honorary life member of the American Legion 40 and 8 and the Disabled American
Veterans.
He was an avid hunter who loved Alaska.
Mr. Schmitz is survived by his son, Scott Schmitz of Arkansas; daughter, Loreina Schmitz of Ohio; sister, Joanne Schuetze of California; and nephew Cliff Schmitz of
Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite hunting site.
Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
