Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Luella Elaine Patience, 79, died April 7, 2008, at her home with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. She passed away with the sun setting and shining on her face. She never looked so beautiful.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at her home, 2040 Finger Cove Drive, Palmer. All are welcome. Call 745-1781 for directions.
Patience was born on June 9, 1928 in Fargo, N.D. She was raised on a farm in Oakes, N. D. She married David A. Patience and lived in Chicago for many years.
In 1975 Patience moved to Spokane, Wash., with her brother Leon. She moved to Alaska in 1977 and worked for Alaska Village Electrical Co-op as a bookkeeper for 16 years. She eventually bought an A-frame cabin in Palmer and turned it into a charming and beautiful house.
She loved to dig in the dirt, and plant flowers and trees. She had a knack for making things beautiful.

Patience was preceded in death by her husband, David Patience; daughter Denna Patience; brother Orville Olderness; sister Doris Frojen; parents Lloyd and Elida Olderness; and her great-grandson Ethan Kuznia.
She is survived by her son Kenneth Patience and daughter-in-law Mary Lou Patience; brothers Kenny, Alvin and Leon Olderness; step-children Steven, Susan and David Patience; and grandchildren David and Erin Patience, and Merissa Hayes.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
