Lynette Drumbarger, 66, passed away on April 22, 2016. She was born Lynette Estelle Abbott on November 7, 1949, to Chuck and Irene Abbott and raised in Homer. Her family homesteaded on Baycrest Hill above Homer and also on Cohen Island across Kachemak Bay. She overcame many challenges in her life and dealt with them with determination and persistence. Her mother died when she was four and her father died when she was a teen. When she was still in her teens, she was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a devoted, active member for the rest of her life.
All her life, she loved learning. She attended Ricks College and BYU and went on a mission to Argentina. She earned her AA degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1995 and then took classes toward her teaching degree. She lived for many years in Wasilla. She worked at the Mat-Su Borough School District as a substitute in many different positions. She also worked at the Wasilla Senior Center, the Wasilla Red Cross, and various other jobs. Several summers she enjoyed being a tour guide at the Eklutna Historical Park and at Hatcher Pass. At the time of her death, she worked for the State of Alaska Department of Corrections at Point Mackenzie. In 2015, she became part of the Pathway Program and was working on her accounting degree. She had a passion for genealogy and loved to write stories of her family history.
Lynette was a devoted mother to her three children, sacrificing much in raising them, and was very proud of them. She is survived by her daughter, Tasha Happs (Laramie); her sons, William (Vanessa), and Allen Drumbarger; her grandchildren, Cassie, Cody, Olivia, and Joey; siblings, Philip (Martha) Brudie, Charlene Wilkins, Jane (Tim) Wilkes, Ann (Pat) Daigle, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as the father of her children, Wayne Drumbarger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her baby brother, Allen; grandmother, Stella Abbott, and her stepmother, Phyllis Abbott.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on May 4, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 901 Bogard Road in Wasilla. She will be buried on Cohen Island.
