She did it her way from birth to death…M.Evelyn Doggett died unexpectedly
August 14, 2018 at her home. Born in a pick up truck at the hospital parking lot in Weed, CA, Evelyn joined her parents Frank and Elisabeth Doggett and two brothers Clyde and Jim. Soon the family included sisters Carolyn and Jeanne.
After graduating from Anderson Valley High School in Boonville, CA, Evelyn went on to graduate from Whittier College, CA, in 1966. Seeking adventure, she drove to Fairbanks, Alaska and attended UAF earning her teacher certification in 1967.
She moved to Anchorage and from 1967- 1994 Evelyn taught PE at West High, Clark Junior High and East High. She led several East High Volleyball teams to State championships. As one parent noted, Evelyn taught the girls much more than volleyball skills…she taught resilience and self-discipline.
Living in Alaska allowed her to enjoy the great outdoors including fishing, camping, building a log cabin and discovering the joy of traveling in her RV.
Retirement saw her traveling many miles, enjoying concerts by her favorite singers, making new friends and venturing as far away as New Zealand. Her many dogs enjoyed travels with her. Driving the Al-Can was just a Sunday drive for Evelyn.
Her circle of friends was large…as was her heart. Evelyn will be remembered for her sharp wit, phenomenal memory, love of dogs and nature, generosity, and sense of humor. Evelyn stories would fill a book entitled “How Evelyn Saw the World”.
She is survived by her siblings: Clyde, Jim (Shirley), Carolyn (Roger), Jeanne. Also surviving are and her nieces Christie Wilbur (Troy), Judy Urbano, Mary Barnes (David) and Jenny Fane (Jerry). Several great nieces and nephews and many life long friends survive her. Her most recent rescue dog Frankie also survives.
If you wish to honor Evelyn’s memory, donations can be made in her name to Planned Parenthood (plannedparenthood.org), Peninsula Unwanted Pets (PUPS) 28751 Seward Hwy, Seward AK 99664 or charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to Christie Wilbur, 626 E Sage Rd. Wasilla, AK 99654
