PALMER — Mat-Su College received three pieces of artwork by Fred Machetanz April 23 from the estate of Nadine Beacock of London, Ontario, Canada, who died Nov. 6, 2010.
In her will, Beacock left an original oil painting by Machetanz, titled “Start of the Hunt,” a lithograph, titled “Seal Hunter,” a framed Machetanz print, and two Eskimo prints by Emerak.
Her will specified the artwork should go to “that University of Alaska campus which is most closely and proximately associated with Fred and Sara Machetanz.”
“The Machetanz family has been the donor that keeps on giving to our college,” Mat-Su College Director Talis Colberg said. “They gave us 240 acres of their property, their private library of Alaskana books, a $64,000 endowed scholarship fund and now we are coming into possession of an ever-increasing portion of the art collection that made Fred Machetanz an international historical figure. We are fortunate and thrilled to have the Machetanz association with this campus.”
