Manfred (Fred) Mane’, 93, son of Simon and Helene Mane’, passed away on November 3, 2022.

He was born on March 15, 1929, in Wachenheim, Pfalz, Germany. His early years were spent in Europe during WWII, surviving the Holocaust and traveling to the United States with his sister in 1941. He joined the Army in 1947 and was a guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a duty which he was very proud of.

He made his home in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1951, and married Helen Zontek on November 4, 1952. They spent the majority of their 63 years together in Fairbanks, where they raised their three children: Christine, Paul and Judy. Following his service in the military, he worked at Ladd Air Force Base (Ft. Wainwright) as a refrigeration foreman and retired in 1984. In his retirement, he enjoyed oil painting, traveling the world, and daily coffee with his friends. Fred is survived by his sister Trudy Hirsch; children, Christine Vaughan (John), Paul Mane’, Judy Schurosky (Norman); granddaughters, Cheron Mane’, Kelly Hall (Bobby), Katie Comer (Ian), Krystina Whittum (Tony), and great-grandchildren, Skyler Simeroth, Tessa Hall, Charlotte Comer, Noah and Ryan Whittum, and many Nieces & Nephews.

The family would like to thank the many wonderful and dedicated caregivers at the VA Palmer Pioneer Home and Rabbi Mendy Greenberg.
