Marc Leonard Rogers, 60, died July 31, 2012, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center after a torturous battle with cancer and its treatment.

Marc was born in Palo Alto, Calif. In 1961, his family moved to Anchorage. He attended Abbott Loop Elementary School, Wendler Junior High and graduated from Dimond High School in 1970. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Marc moved to Illinois in 1973, where he worked at Morton Metalcraft and the Caterpillar factory in Peoria as a machinist. Marc returned to Alaska in 1983. He was employed at NC Machinery as a parts-man for 11 years. Since 1998, Marc had worked the North Slope oilfield under several contractors until his last employment at Ice Services as an equipment dispatcher.

Marc was a caring, sympathetic listener and his co-workers and friends often sought his attentive ear. This same compassion he gave mankind he also extended to God’s other creatures. Along with his work on the North Slope, Marc and his wife, Jeanette, devoted the last 10 years to helping animals in need through their organization, Meadow Gates Farm Sanctuary.

Marc was a devoted family man and a supportive father of his six children. Through his patience and guidance, they all grew to become strong and independent adults of whom he was very proud. Marc dearly loved his three grandchildren and treasured every moment he had with them.

Marc was a man of great faith in the Lord. He was an avid disciple of the Bible and found comfort and peace in its teachings. He had a passion for music, especially jazz, and enjoyed tinkering with computer-generated musical compositions and playing finger-style guitar.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Rogers; children, Aimee Rogers of Washington and Wolfen Mantor, Kara, Joseph, Ayla and Austen Rogers of Anchorage; mother, Joan Rogers; brothers, Gary, Cris and Lee Rogers, all of Anchorage; sister, Julie Rogers of Phoenix; and his grandsons, Julian, Hayden and Adrian Almond of Washington.

Preceding him in death was his father, Leonard Rogers, who died in 1998.

Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m., Aug. 7, with a funeral to follow at 2 p.m. at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel of Anchorage, 440 East Klatt Road, on the grounds of Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.
