Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Marianne Louise (Wagner) Kaemerer, 71, of Eagle River, died at her home on Jan. 28, 2015.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1943, to Fred and Marion (Erickson) Wagner in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Colorado State College in 1965 with a teaching degree and immediately moved to Alaska where she worked as an elementary school teacher for 30 years.Her students remember her as an engaging, supportive teacher who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Marianne retired in 1996 and pursued her passion for travel. She loved adventure and made many friends as she explored countries across the globe. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed entertaining friends on her beautiful deck surrounded by blossoms. Marianne was an enthusiastic ambassador of Alaska who enjoyed hosting visitors and sharing the beautiful state that she loved so much.
She was an active member of many clubs and organizations with her many friends whom she grew to love as family.
Marianne is survived by her son, Fred (Kelly) Kaemerer and her grandchildren, Madison and Nicholas of Highlands Ranch, CO; and her brothers Michael (Karen) Wagner of Calumet, MI and Daniel (Cathy) Wagner of Eagle River, AK.
A memorial service is at 10 a.m., Feb. 3 at Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 727 E Street, Anchorage.
Marianne loved flowers and floral tributes are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Laken Kruger in Marianne’s honor also would be appreciated. Laken lost her father to cancer and is raising money to fund a medical internship. She then plans to become a physician in the U.S. Navy. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/hjolf8.
