Marie C. Wilson
It is with great sorrow in our hearts that we announce the death of Marie C. Wilson, who passed away peacefully in her home on April 8, 2022 at the age of 85.
Marie was born on November 11, 1936 in Benton Harbor, MI. She married her faithful husband, Richard L. Wilson (Dick), on June 20, 1955. In 1956 Marie and Dick moved to Anchorage, AK and, in 1969, purchased the family business, Warning Lites of Alaska, Inc. Initially, the company operated from a small shop on their residential street and eventually grew into a hugely successful, nationally-known enterprise. In 1998, Marie received the esteemed Hard Hat award from Associated General Contractors of America. She also served asAGC of Alaska’s Board President in 2002 (only the second woman to hold that position at that time).
Marie was a pioneering member of her churches, both in Anchorage and Wasilla. Her life-long dedication to her faith was shown through her hard work and commitment to her church communities. From maintaining the church grounds to preparing countless meals to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, Marie could always be counted on to get the job done.
Marie was a lover of animals, especially her horses. She shared this love with her grandchildren by taking them on bareback rides in their neighborhood. She was a competitive barrel racer and a Lifetime Member of the Chugach Range Riders. Over the years she had many beloved chihuahuas, several cats, and even two parrots that lived with her for nearly 40 years.
A true matriarch, Marie will be lovingly remembered by her large and boisterous family including her husband, Dick; their four children, Richard (and wife Joan), Roxanne (and husband Allyn), Robin, and Rochelle (and husband Sam); 16 grandchildren, Jamie, Jonathon (and wife Terye), Grace (and husband Zach), Tyler (and wife Melissa), Thomas (and wife Selina), Ann (and husband Drew), Alexis, Elaina, Travis (and wife Kala), Joshua, Kyle, Justin (and wife Lindsey), Sarah (and husband Josh), Peter, Lizzy, and Abigail. Marie’s legacy continues in her 14
great-grandchildren, plus two more that will be born later this year. Marie was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Wava.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 4:00pm at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1601 Lucille Street, Wasilla, AK.
