Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident, Marjorie Bertch, 79, died of cancer Nov. 21 at her home in Primrose Retirement Community in Wasilla. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 10 a.m. at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1015 S. Check St. in Wasilla with Pastor Jim McFarlin, Sr. officiating. Pallbearers are Steven Bertch, Don Lelle, Gary Pillins and Dick Lindamin.
Marjorie was born Aug. 20, 1930 to Roland and Violet Daniels in Soda Springs, Idaho.
She moved to Alaska in 2006.
Marjorie enjoyed playing guitar, singing, gardening and putting together puzzles.
Her family wrote: “Marjorie loved to laugh and had a beautiful smile. She loved keeping house and was an excellent homemaker. She always had everything organized and in its place. She will be fondly remembered by all whose life she touched. Her memory will be cherished by family and friends. Her good-bye to visitors was always “Via con dios”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Arthur Bertch.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Judith Bertch of Alaska and Mike and Sue Bertch of Arizona; daughter, Peggy Bertch of Arizona; brothers, Jack Daniels of Oregon and Roy Daniels of Idaho; sister, Bellie Ruthern of Wash.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren of Arizona; four step-grandchildren of Alaska; 12 step-great-grandchildren of Alaska and 14 step-great-great-grandchildren of Alaska.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Wasilla.
