Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Marjorie Margaret Shampine, 91, died May 23, 2013, of natural causes.
A viewing was from 2 to 4 p.m., May 28 at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Wasilla.
The funeral mass for Marjorie was at 11 a.m., May 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla. Burial is at Sacred Heart Cemetery with a reception to follow.
Marjorie was born on Dec. 29, 1921, in New York. She was the third oldest child and oldest daughter in a family of 16 children.
In 1950, she married Walter Shampine and together they had three children. Marjorie and Walter moved to Alaska from Texas in 1957 and homesteaded in Wasilla in 1964.
A gentle soul, Marjorie was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her daughter, Marion Kennedy.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Walter; son, Alvin and daughter-in-law Mary; daughter, Marjorie and son-in-law John Harris; grandchildren, Danny and Maria Kennedy, Elizabeth and Joe Bradley, Kalon Shampine, Kolton Shampine, Clayton and Alexandria Harris, Crystal, Michelle, and Erica and Monica Harris; great-grandchildren, Fallwyn Kennedy, Quinlin Kennedy and Rhyhannon Bradley; and three sisters and one brother from upstate New York.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for their kindness and compassion.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
