Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Marlene L. Strange, 75, died Nov. 1, 2008 of acute leukemia at her home.
Strange was born July 31, 1933 in Luthers Mills, Pa., to Wallace and Myrtle Pruyne. She married Philip Strange Feb. 27, 1955 and they had five children. Strange moved to Alaska in 1971, living in Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak and settling in Wasilla in 1977.
She enjoyed many years of volunteering in the Wasilla Lioness Club. She was an avid quilter, beader and garage seller.
Strange was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years. She is survived by her children, Gene Strange of Anchorage, Joyce and Brian Birdsall of Washington, John and Kim Strange of Oklahoma, Barbara and Bob Fithian of Kenny Lake, Charles and Roxane Strange of Wasilla; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A clebration of life will be held for both Marlene and Philip Strange at the First Baptist Church of Wasilla on Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. Following the service will be a gathering and potluck with family and friends.
