Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Marshall N. Bond, 77, of Palmer, died June 2, 2011, at his residence.
Marshall was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Powell, Wyo., to Elray and Faye Bond. He retired from Haliburton, where he received an award for having no accidents in his 30 years of service. Marshall enjoyed tinkering and fixing almost any kind of small engine, welding and helping his family. Recently, he spent time at the Palmer Senior Center.
His family said, “Our husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and great-grandfather was the most honest, honorable and decent man anyone could ever meet. We will never stop hearing his trademark ‘howdy’ when you came through his door. Even though his voice is silenced forever, his soul lives on through all of us.”
Marshall is survived by his daughters, Mardie (Seth) Robb, Jo Anne Bond and Rhonda Zak; grandchildren, Sean Winter, Krystal Minkler and family, Chelsea Bushey and family, Amanda Robb and Jaesah; brother, Brad Bond; brother-in-law, Gary (Jan) Griffin; and cousins, Kim Bradford, Robert Jr. Shaffer, Ron Schaffer, Richard Shaffer and Roger Schaffer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Orlene Bond; mother, Faye Vawter, step-father, Mike Vawter; brothers, Glenn Bond, Tom Bond and Bob Vawter; and sister, Norma Bond.
Arrangements were with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel of Wasilla.
