Martin L. Larson
December 4, 1956 – April 28, 2021
Martin Leigh Larson, 64, of Willow, Alaska, passed away on April 28, 2021, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital due to COVID-19. His family was able to be with him in his final moments.
Marty was born December 4, 1956, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Norman Ardell Larson and Ruby Jeanette Stacy. Norman and Ruby had five children. As a military family, they found themselves stationed in Alaska and then in Rancho Cordova, California, where Marty met and married Juanita Pauline Harmon. Marty and Juanita raised three daughters, Jenna Larson, Angela Carlson, and Tamara Larson.
Marty and his family moved back to Alaska in the late 1970s, where he worked at Shakey’s Pizza, Alaska Drywall, and the Furniture Factory. He also worked in the asbestos abatement field in the 1990’s. He recently retired from the North Slope after working for several companies for 18 years, with his most recent employer being Worley. Marty had many co-workers whom he loved very dearly and always told them he loved them.
Marty married Myrna Larson on September 20, 2000. When not on the slope, Marty loved to run his airboat and fish and camp near his home in Willow. Marty was a family man who loved to spend time with his daughters, grandchildren, and his many friends—some of whom were lifelong, like Jon Evertt, Bill Hester, Kyle Marsicovetere, Dave Hale, Char and Kenny Daniels, and a lot of others—who will miss his warm heart, willingness to help others, great sense of humor, and memorable laugh. He also loved the nature and the wildlife of Alaska and was a Christian who loved God and dedicated his life to Him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna; his father Norman; his mother, Jeanette Fischer; his daughters, Jenna (Corey) and Angela (Erik); and his grandchildren, Jessie and Ty Newman and Jordan and Justin Carlson. He is also survived by his brothers, Ray and Bill Larson, and sisters, Sue Clark, Joy Larson and Linda Fischer; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marty has joined in death one of the loves of his life, his daughter Tami, who passed away on February 12, 2005, and his beloved stepmother, Audrey Larson.
A Celebration of Life for Marty will be held on Sunday, May 16, at 2pm at the Palmer Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 2238 Inner Springer Loop, Palmer, Alaska. There will be a potluck immediately following the service.
