Marty Lovejoy

Marty Lovejoy

Marty Lovejoy, 55, died Dec. 11, 2010, at his home in Sutton.

A celebration of life was Dec. 17 at Farm Loop Christian Center in Palmer.

Marty was born Nov. 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, and arrived in Alaska with his family in March 1971.

He graduated with the first graduating class of Bartlett High School in 1974.

In his 38 years of doing electrical contracting all over the state of Alaska, Marty worked alongside his dad for many happy years. Several of Marty’s children had the same opportunity to work alongside their dad.

In 1980, he married Belinda Blackburn, and over the years they had eight children and one grandchild. Family came first and was a very special part of his life. They enjoyed road trips, camping, hiking, kayaking, biking, dip netting, fishing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, shooting, sledding and other outdoor activities together. He loved serving the Lord and others by lending a helping hand, offering a kind word or just by listening. He was always heard whistling or singing a tune.

Marty was very friendly and talked knowledgeably to anyone he met and made them feel welcome and at ease.

He was kind, tender, generous, humble, fun-loving and always had a wry sense of humor. It was his faith and his sense of humor that helped him overcome all obstacles in life, including cancer.

Marty is survived by his wife of 30 years, Belinda. He’s also survived by their children and families, Luke and his wife Amanda and their son Ethan; Laura, Andrew, Amy, Aaron, Isaac, Jeshua and Hosanna; parents, Chuck and Mary Ann Lovejoy; siblings, Chuck Lovejoy, Doris Dortch, Mary Jo Marx and Matt Lovejoy; mother-in-law, Wanda and her husband Jim Seago; sisters and brother-in-law, Jenni Kuentzel, Kim Walker and Mark Blackburn; and many other caring in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Marty was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jan Blackburn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Alaska USA in the name of Belinda Lovejoy.
