A visitation for Wasilla resident Mary A. Poggi, 84, will be at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Wasilla from 3 to 6 p.m., April 6, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., officiated by Father Bill Fournier of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A graveside service will be April 15 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
Mary died peacefully in her sleep March 24, 2011, at Northern Comfort Assisted Living. She was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Rochester, N.Y. She was the owner of Fancy Windows by Mary in San Bernardino, Calif., from 1982 to 1993, at which time she came to Alaska.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Salvation Army. She enjoyed doing stained glass, sewing, crocheting and traveling.
According to her family, “Mary was a good-hearted, kind, loving person. She always thought of others before herself. Her smile could light up a room.”
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Poggi.
Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mike Wessels of Palmer; and a son, William Poggi of Virginia.
