Maryann Anderson passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 14th, 2023, at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer Alaska - she was 93 years old. Maryann was cherished by many and will be greatly missed.
Born to Leo and Lilly Michalek in Wyoming on March 3, 1930, Maryann and her older sister Lillian moved to Alaska with their parents in 1945.
Maryann graduated from Palmer High School in 1949 and married Byron Anderson shortly after. Her eldest son Dale was born in 1950 and daughter, Kay, was born in 1954.
Byron “Barney” and Maryann raised their family on their “farm” in Palmer, and were very active in the community- Among many other things, they loved to dance, socialize, and spend time with family and friends at their cabin on Tazlina Lake.
When Barney passed away in 1996, Maryann moved to the Palmer Mountain Rose retirement community - she enjoyed many years in her home there. She spent her final few years at the Palmer Pioneer Home. She remained as an active member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Pioneers of Alaska- Always contributing to her family and community in any way she was able to.
Maryann was preceded in death by her Husband- Barney, Sister-Lillian, and 2 sons- Carl Anderson (18 mos.) and Baby Anderson (stillborn)- Along with many other family and friends whom she loved very much.
Maryann will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit as well as her fun loving and adventurous nature. She had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew her.
Maryann is survived by two of her children Dale and Kay Anderson; Grandchildren- Charity Chamberlain Reopelle (Jason Reopelle), Gretchen Linsey, Chris Anderson, and Jamin Sprague; Great Grandchildren- Ashley Linsey, Robbie Chamberlain, Kyler Chamberlain, Roman Chamberlain, Michael Reopelle, Joey Reopelle, Alexander Anderson, Xavier Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Monae Anderson, Kyra Anderson, Layla Anderson, Gabriel Sprague and Liam Sprague; Great Great Grandchildren- Tyler Cox and Eiley Day Chamberlain.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Maryann at the Palmer Moose Lodge on June 10th at 2pm- In lieu of flowers you can also contribute to her favorite charities/organizations- Mooseheart (residential childcare facility) www.moosecharities.org or the Pioneers of Alaska
