Mary Marrs

September 20, 1934 - November 13, 2025 Mary Belle Marrs, 91, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 13, 2025, at home and in the hands of loved ones. Born on September 20, 1934 in Baca County, Colorado, Mary was the second oldest child of Daniel Clay Millard and Mina Bell (Taylor) Millard. As a child, she was kind and helped care for her younger siblings, but she was also a hard worker. She spent most of her time outdoors on her horse Jumbo tilling the ground and harvesting crops or tending to the animals on the family ranch. She married Patrick Marrs on July 4, 1956 and had four children. Together they moved to Alaska, built a log cabin, and worked on clearing over 600 acres to start a hay farm up Point MacKenzie until Pat’s death in 1996. Mary ultimately retired from a childcare center which her grandchildren attended. Mary’s life changed when she married Leroy Hawn on April 20, 2000 in Wasilla, Alaska. Mary and Leroy’s life was centered around their love of the Lord. Mary was a member of Sunny Knik Chapel and Wasilla Church on the Rock. They shared many wonderful years together volunteering in Africa and helping newly founded churches spread the word of Christ. They also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. More recently, she enjoyed reading her Bible and books, crafting, coloring, and watching westerns on TV. Everyday Mary would talk to her friends and family on the phone for hours on end. Mary is survived by her daughters Eileen Marrs of Wasilla, Alaska and Elizabeth (David) Mikowski of Traverse City, Michigan; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren: Briana Putnam and Spencer; Camile (CJ) Rusher, CJ, Nellie and Billy; Michael (Melissa) Marrs; Wade (Sophia) Marrs, Mack and Asher; Kirsten (Kenny) Kleewein, Kenny, Bellamy, and Sterling; Caleb Boitz; Douglas Boitz; Dustin (Jesse) Marrs, Mackson, Brooklyn, Ava, and Everly. She is also survived by her older brother Jack (Carol) Millard of Grand Island, Nebraska and younger sisters Helen (David) Marrs of West Fork, Arkansas and Margie (Lynn Mauritson) Godfrey of Cathlamet, Washington. She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel Clay and Mina Bell Millard, her first husband Patrick Marrs, her sons Clayton Marrs and Crist Marrs, and her second husband Alvin (Leroy) Hawn. She will be laid to rest next to her parents and grandpa in the Silver Cliff Cemetery in Colorado. Per Mary’s request, there will be no funeral.
