Prep girls hockey
team to begin practice
The Mat-Su Ravens girls prep hockey team will begin practice Oct. 18. The team meets at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.
The team is coached by Dudley Boehm, Clint Playle and Maribeth Weeks.
WHS hosting youth wrestling program
The Wasilla High School wrestling booster club is hosting the Wasilla Warriors Little Grapplers Youth Wrestling Program from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., Oct. 18-20 and 25-27 at Wasilla High.
All girls and boys, kindergarten through eighth grade, of any skill level are invited to participate in this fund-raiser for the WHS wrestling program. The cost is $35, and wrestlers are required to bring gym clothes, wrestling or gym shoes and a water bottle.
Participants will receive advanced training technique from the Wasilla wrestling coaches and players.
PHS hosting Lancer Smith Memorial
Palmer High School is hosting the eighth annual Lancer Smith Memorial wrestling tournament Oct. 22-23 at Palmer High School.
The Lancer Smith, which starts at 9:30 a.m. each day, is one of the largest prep wrestling tournaments in the state with more than 350 wrestlers from 20 teams participating. Palmer is also hosting a 10-team dual competition on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.

Club sponsors adult volleyball league
The Northern Lights Volleyball Club is sponsoring an adult volleyball league.
This division of NLVC caters to adults 18 and over who want to play a fast game of organized volleyball and improve their individual skills. This is a great way to get exercise and stay in shape during the winter months.
NLVC hosts the adult league Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Palmer Junior Middle School, and the league will continue throughout the school year.
Players must complete a registration form and pay a $50 league fee before participating. Registration forms are available at the club website, northernlightsvolleyball.net. Fees cover all open games and the occational in-house tournament. Due to insurance and safety concerns, children are not allowed to attend this division of play.
