Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Matthew Clement Cassidy, 48, died at home in Wasilla Feb. 28, 2015.
He was born to Pat and Clem Cassidy in Red Wing, Minnesota, Dec. 12, 1966.
Matt was a 1985 graduate of Red Wing Central High School, Red Wing, Minnesota, and a 1989 graduate of Carleton College. After college, Matt taught English in Korea and Guam, then made Alaska his home where he worked as an electrician. He served as past President of the Board of Directors of The Children’s Place.
Matt was a beloved brother, son, and friend who was passionate about books, music, loved to ski, followed baseball, and told a good story with his Irish smile. To know Matt was to love Matt. His wit, generosity, and kindness will be dearly missed by all.
“Uncle Matt was awesome,” his family said.
He is survived by his fiancé, Lim Sooi Kim; brothers and sisters, Ed (Michele Cohn) St. Paul, Minnesota, Jim (Annette) Wasilla, Mary (Scott) Johnson, Fenton, Michigan, Casey (Doreen) Wasilla, Joe (Jen) Wasilla and Katy, Hastings, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews, great niece and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Clem.
A celebration of Matt’s life is from 1 to 5 p.m., March 8 at Government Peak Chalet in Hatcher Pass. In addition, a celebration is from 2 to 5 p.m., March 28 at the Indigo Room, 325 Main St., Red Wing, Minnesota.
