Matthew David Hernandez

Matthew David Hernandez, 25, died July 26, 2012, in Chickaloon at Mile 88.1, Glenn Highway.

Memorial service in his honor is at 3:30 p.m., Aug. 15 at Valley Funeral Home.

Matthew was born June 20, 1987, in Natchitoches, La., to Caine and Shana Hernandez. He became an Alaska resident in December 1998. Matthew was employed by Service Master in the Mat-Su Valley. He enjoyed flying, golfing, motorcycling, music, friends and football.

“Matthew was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend,” the family wrote. “He gave of himself to those close to him. Matthew was loved by many who appreciated his humor, compassion, trustworthiness and honesty. Matthew has been described by his closest friends as just being ‘Matt.’ We all miss him and know he is watching over all of us.”

Surviving are his parents, Caine and Shana Hernandez of Houston; sister, Sharon Hernandez of Wasilla; maternal grandparents, Joe and Sharon Young of The Colony, Texas; paternal grandmother, Mary Normand of Natchitoches, La.; paternal grandfather, Ted Hernandez of Shreveport, La.; aunts and uncles, Heidi and Gilbert Luna of The Colony, Texas, CJ and Sandra Young of Little Elm, Texas, Heidi and David Green of Nashville, Tenn., Timothy Hernandez of Tulum, Mexico, Ray Hernandez of Shreveport, La., and Natalie Hernandez of Calvin, La.; and his dog, Buster Lestat Hernandez of Houston.
