Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Matthew Nick Peterson, 19, died Feb. 18 in Anchorage.
There was a service on Feb. 27 at noon at Palmer Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Cory Ozhuwan, Nick Peterson, Fernando Peterson, Ewin Anderson, Jarred Peterson and Tin Marsh.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1989 in Kodiak. He lived in Akhiok, Kodiak, Anchorage and Wasilla.
Mr. Peterson was employed by Johnson’s Tire Service in Anchorage. He was Russian Orthodox.
Some of his hobbies included skateboarding, snowboarding, listening to music and hanging out with his friends.
His family stated, “Matt was full of life, he did what he wanted to do. He was easy to get to know and made a lot of friends. He was a very caring and loving person. He was very much loved by his family.”
He was survived by his mother and step-father, Melanie Rose Peterson and Tim Marsh in Wasilla; sisters, Linda Rose Marsh and Andrea Marie Warren of Wasilla; brother, sister-in-law and niece, Edwin Leroy Anderson Jr. IV, Amanda Anderson and Baby Kalie of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.; uncle Nick Peterson Jr. and aunt Prisilla Peterson and their children, Marie, Amber, Tracy, Dustin and Nick all of Palmer; father, Teddy VonScheele of Palmer; grandmother Christine VonScheele of Port Lions; grandfather, Hermwald VonScheele of Port Lions; sister, Tia Baullta of Big Lake; uncle and aunt Fernando and Jenelle Peterson and their four kids of Ouzinkie; uncle Jerred J. Peterson of Wasilla and grandma, Annie Shangin of Wasilla; as well as numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins all over Alaska.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his grandfather Nick Peterson, Sr., aunt Tanya M. Peterson and uncle Evon Ozhuwan.
