Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Matthew Anthony Pitts, 47, died at his home Dec. 15, 2007, in Palmer. A private service for his close friends and family has been held.
Pitts was born July 14, 1960 in California and moved to Alaska with his parents and sister in 1972.
He attended Palmer High School and lived most of his adult life in the Palmer area. He owned and operated Matt Valley Trucking and loved his cars.
He was also a member of the Valley Cruizers. His other interests included boating and barbecuing with family.
“He was a big kid that loved to have fun BBQing, cruising, boating at Finger Lake, four-by-fouring and being with his family,” his family wrote. “He will be greatly missed and always loved.”
Pitts is survived by his mother, Tamara Pitts; sister Rebecca Cordini; children Mindy Green and family, Matthew Pitts and family, Michelle Bannon and family, Mandy Adkins and family, and Michael Pitts.
He is also survived by his wife, Kathleen Pitts, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death death by his father, Warner Pitts.
