Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Mavis M. McKenna died of natural causes Sept. 25, 2008 at St. Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage while surrounded by loved ones.
She was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Florala, Ala., to James and Ruth Evans. She then moved to Alaska with her husband, William McKenna, in 1949, where she became a housewife and mother of two “beautiful” children. She moved to Wasilla seven years ago.
“Mavis found her greatest happiness within the daily lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren,” her family wrote. “Mom will be missed for her unconditional loving nature and commitment to family.”
McKenna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Michael Peterson of Houston; son Robert McKenna and his girlfriend Linda Moudy of Wasilla; grandsons Christopher McKenna of Dallas and Robert Jr. and Ethan McKenna of Wasilla; granddaughters Kalya and Mchaley McKenna of Wasilla; stepdaughter Rosemary McKenna of Houston; stepson and his wife, Mack and Charlotte McKenna of Mobile, Ala.; grandson Richard Johnson and his wife, Karrol, of Nancy Lake; grandson Larry Hilman of Houston; granddaughter Sabrina Smith and her husband, Todd, of Wasilla; grandson Jerald of Alabama; great-grandchildren McKenna, Aria, Nathan, Richard, Amber and Adam; and great-great-grandchildren Shila, Dustin, Steven, Karolynn, Reece, Keeli and Tristan; and many other relatives in Alabama.
